Decoying

Pigeon decoying on productive British farmland

Overview

Pigeon decoying and traditional field shooting across productive British farmland.

Pigeon decoying is the quiet, patient heart of British rough shooting. Done well it depends far more on reading the ground than on the shooting itself — finding the field the flight is actually using, and then siting a hide where the birds will come without hesitation.

We spend the morning before your day walking the farms we keep, checking where the birds have fed overnight and where they are dropping in. From there we build a decoy pattern that suits the wind, the crop and the time of year.

Expect a full day on the field edge with a guide who will read the flight alongside you. Bag limits are naturally modest and unpredictable, but a well-read day on a busy field is one of the finest forms of British shooting there is.

What the day includes

  • Reconnaissance of the field on the morning of the day
  • Hides sited under flightlines and roost woods
  • Traditional rotary and shell decoy patterns
  • Full days, half days and evening flight available
